DIY Fabric Flowers for Mother’s Day or any day!
Seriously, I’m in LOVE with these flowers . You can make them any size, color, add any kind of bling or pearls/buttons/beads/findings to the center of them & they sass up ANY outfit! Here’s a little looksie at how to make these puppies. Supplies needed : 1/2 yard of any kind of synthetic (like polyester) fabric. I love satin, chiffon or organza for these flowers. candle. tea light. lighter. whatever you’ve got around. scissors circle template I used on the show. found HERE. felt cut into a circle to back the flower pins, clips, hair pins, bobby pins; anything to attach your flower to something. optional: lil’ lovelies to put in the middle of your flowers. Steps: 1. Print & cut out on thick cardstock the Circle Template found HERE. Cut out fabric in the various sized circles. Remember: the more layers you have, the fuller your flower. 2. Snip on the dotted line to create the petals. Note: Depending on the fabric, you may want to snip little notches off the corners of your petals.

Artbeads Design Partners {what’s old is new again}
What’s Old is New Again The theme for the latest Artbeads blogging challenge is right up my alley. Blog partners were asked to incorporate vintage or antique components with modern elements, those that could be found in the many categories of beads and findings that Artbeads carries. Finding inspiration from the past? As you know that’s something that has been calling my name more often than not. A way to combine my two favorite interests! I knew exactly which piece I wanted to select from one of my many vintage satin jewelry boxes. With a special brooch in mind, I decided to browse through Artbead’s base metal category first. With the rising cost of precious metals, working with base metals has become more common than ever. I am careful to chose components that are generally heavier in weight and/or have some special detailing. I like to search for unique chains, and Artbeads has a variety of choices.

Vintage, Antique or Estate Jewelry
There is a lot of confusion about the term Vintage Jewelry so let me try to clarify this. For a piece of jewelry to be authentic vintage it must be at least 20 years old. Some dealers and collectors classify vintage as 25 years or more. One cannot make vintage jewelry as it has to be at least that old. You can use vintage parts, beads and findings but that does not make your jewelry vintage as it does not make it old. If it is made today, it is new Contemporary Jewelry. I see a lot of jewelry posted on blogs and in shops labeled as vintage and it’s not even close. When defined as Vintage, it means that piece is 20 years old or older. For the current time frame, jewelry of the 1980s can be classified as Vintage as it falls between the 20 and 25 years old parameter. Jewelry from the 1990s or newer is not vintage yet. Antique Jewelry must be 100 years or older. If it isn’t that old, than it is vintage, even if it looks older.

Featured Designer: Lorelei Eurto
“Me & Bobby McGee” which she covered on her final album just days before her death. The words, written by Kris Kristofferson, are: “…freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose….” In fact, that’s one of the only trivial pursuit questions I ever knew without having to strain my brain! :) So, on to this week’s featured designer! As with Janis, I’ve been a fan of Lorelei Eurto since I came across her blog when I began on my happy little online beading journey! AND, the reason I am so drawn to her work is similar as well. There is a rebellious streak in her work that, as much as I would LOVE to express in my own work, it just doesn’t happen. Lorelei uses many handmade beads as well as typical beads and findings, but always comes up with original, unique, slightly rebellious pieces! They are beautiful, quirky and fabulous all at the same time! Thanks so much Lorelei for allowing me to share your work here today, I hope you know how much pleasure it brings me to sit in awe of your design style!! :)
